Focused experience across the legal matters that affect Central Valley families, businesses, and landowners.
Labor & Employment Law
Led by Brett Dickerson
Brett has spent the last 25 years focusing on employment law, particularly in the representation of local businesses, and in so doing has become one of the leading employment law attorneys in the area. He has represented clients in both state and federal court and before multiple administrative agencies, including the Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement, and the Employment Development Department.
Brett sees counseling his business clients to minimize their risk of employment-related disputes as some of the most satisfying work he does, as it ultimately benefits both the employer and the employee.
Real Estate Law
Led by Brett Dickerson
In addition to being an attorney, Brett has been a California real estate broker for over 25 years. He previously owned real estate offices in the Sierra foothills and is a past president of the Hetch-Hetchy Board of Realtors. He has obtained listings, filled out mandatory disclosures, written deposit receipts, and worked with title companies to see transactions through close of escrow.
As an attorney, he has represented clients in contract and title matters, boundary disputes, easement creation, and quiet title actions. This combination of experience as both a broker and an attorney allows Brett to bring a unique perspective to his representation of buyers, sellers, landlords, tenants, and members of the real estate community.
Estates, Wills & Trusts
Led by Kimberly Sullivan Gray
An estate plan aims to preserve the maximum amount of wealth possible for the intended beneficiaries while maintaining flexibility for the individual prior to death. An estate is the total property, real and personal, owned by an individual prior to distribution through a trust or will — real property is real estate, and personal property includes everything else, such as cars, household items, and bank accounts.
Wills and trusts are common ways in which individuals dispose of their wealth. Trusts, unlike wills, have the benefit of avoiding probate — a lengthy and costly legal process that oversees the transfer of assets. Sometimes it is also useful to make inter vivos gifts (gifts made while the donor is alive) to minimize taxes. Kimberly is a trusted expert in these areas.
